Concentration in Pk-Post Secondary Leadership

TE 801 Professional Roles and Teaching Practices I

Fall 2015

In this class I was introduced to a series of best practices for literacy instruction. As we learned about the Workshop Model and Balanced Literacy, we were asked to both observe and implement ELA lessons and evaluate student learning.

TE 802 Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practices I

Fall 2015

Throughout this semester I learned how to deliver Social Studies content in a way that engaged students in inclusive and relevant curriculum. Through observation, collaboration, and feedback, I created a Social Studies unit to be taught to a 3rd grade classroom.

TE 803 Professional Roles and Teaching Practices II

Spring 2016

This course, along with the other 3 TE courses in this grouping, were taken alongside my Teaching Internship. This class in particular helped me to look at unit planning from a big picture lens and practice backwards planning of a reading, writing, math, science, and social studies unit.

TE 804 Reflection an Inquiry in Teaching Practices II

Spring 2016

Throughout this class, I focused on all of the classroom management and environmental elements to teaching students. Via student interviews, ancedotal data, implementation of Tier 1 behavior plans, and feedback, I created my own systems and classroom norms in my Teaching Internship classroom.

EAD 830 Racial Achievement Gap

Spring 2019

This class helped me to uncover the ways that race, class, education, and socioeconomics contribute to the racial achievement gap. Through learning about strategies to improve urban schools, I created a Professional Learning experience about how to teach math to elementary students in a relevant and engaging way (see more in the showcase!)

CEP 841 Classroom Management in Inclusion Classrooms

Summer 2019

Throughout this course, I learned how to use RTI and best practices in social and emotional learning to create Tier 1 interventions for all students in my classroom. I then learned how to write IEPs, BIPs, and FBAs. This course allowed me to examine my own classroom and practices and integrate new classroom management strategies.

ED 800 Concepts of Educational Inquiry

Summer 2019

Throughout this class, we were constantly confronting the question "how do people learn?" Within this question, we looked at how education and learning has historically impacted and influenced various systems in the United States. We also did many case studies on important Americans and looked into how they recieved their knowledge. Through learning many different learning perspectives and theories, I was able to refine my own personal teaching philosophy.

EAD 822 Diverse Students and Families

Fall 2019

During this class, we looked at historical views of education and how this impacted the way that schools interact with the communities that they serve. Through a lot of conversation and observation, we planned activities and interventions in our own schools that allowed us to address social problems, policies, and school, family, and community relationships.

EAD 850 Multicultural Education

Spring 2020

While this class reiterated and solidified a lot of my understanding of the inequities in many systems- particularly the education system, this class specifically looked at how the media has influenced the stereotypes and biases that we come in contact with on a daily basis. Through this lens, we were asked to recognize how students and families in our class were impacted by images in media and how curriculum and day to day teachings were either reinforcing or correcting the biases in the education system.

EAD 824 Leading Teacher Learning

Summer 2020

Leading Teacher Learning was my favorite, and in my opinion the most valuable class, in my program. Throughout the summer I learned about the importance of Professional Learning Communities and how to facilitate a variety of conversations and meetings among staff and colleagues. I also learned different evaluation and leadership strategies that positively impact change in school communities.

TE 846 Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners

Summer 2020

Throughout this course, I was asked to learn and analyze what is considered 'best practices' for ELA. By looking at models for balanced literacy and considering the latest research for teaching reading and writing, I created differentiated lessons for a student who needed extra reading support.

EAD 870 Capstone Seminar

Fall 2020

In what has been my most challenging course to date, I have grown as a student, teacher, and future leader. Being asked to create a showcase of my work- through creating a website- I pushed myself to learn how to maneuver through a virtual world. I brought a lot of my learning into my own teaching as I have undertaken a position as a Virtual Academy teacher. I had many opportunities to reflect on where I have been and to look forward into where I hope to go next.
