Showcase

Here is a small but impactful look at some of the work that I have produced both as apart of my Masters program and in my professional work. The work below shows two sides of my work. The first is a showcase of my perspective of best practices in education. This is seen through  my understanding of the racial achievement gap and equity as it pertains to culturally responsive approaches. The second aspect of the work below shows professional development that I have created and presented to colleagues in an effort to inform and reform the current work around equity and cultural proficiency in my district.

In this paper, I examine how the media portrays Korean Americans as the 'Model Minority' in modern films and social media.

In this work you will see how I use representation as a means for students to create authentic connections within their curriculum.

Through my research I explain why the Read by Third Grade Law in Michigan is harmful for students- particularly students of color and those in lower income districts.

Dear White People Analysis

While summarizing the movie, Dear White People, I provide feedback to the college and offer suggestions on how to address issues of systemic racism on campus.

Using an assessment of bias, I evaluate the bias in the Lucy Calkins Reading Curriculum for Grade 3, Unit 4. I provide ratings and anecdotal data to determine whether this curriculum is implicitly bias.

This is a Professional Learning Experience that I created and presented to my colleagues last year. In this PLE, I define culture and ask participants to consider their own cultures. Then they determine how their cultures may influence their values and what this means for collaboration with peers, delivering material, and working with communities that may differ from you culturally.

This work sample is a presentation on Tier One Social Skills. This was written for my Classroom Management in an Inclusion Setting class. In this presentation, I compare learning social skills to driving down a road. While you may be able to teach some of the basics through simulation, there needs to be many opportunities for authentic learning. I then provide resources for building a classroom environment that promotes social emotional curriculum integrated into academic curriculum.

In this Professional Learning Experience, I describe why there is a discrepency in test scores between White students and students of Color. I then promote the Math Workshop as a tool that allows for accessibilty, meaningful practice, and appropriate differentiation in teaching math. This presentation was given to my staff at my previous district and allowed for the Leadership Team and I to set appropriate math goals in our School Improvement Plan
